摘要：During the 1990’s, the specificity of Belgian symbolist poetry has been analysed in a number of studies treating the reception of Maurice Materlinck and Emile Verhaeren in different countries, France among others. In these studies, one question keeps coming back: Does the fact that a work is written in French by an author, born in another country than France influence the reception of his work? In this article, I shall discuss how political elements in literary texts may affect the reception in different countries: One purpose of this comparison is to show that the study of the above authors can give us knowledge of the cultural climate in these countries.
