摘要：The aim of the present study is to know the diversity of snakes from the western Pará State. We
analised 494 specimens in the low part of the Amazonas River, deposited in collections of the Pontifícia
Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, Instituto Butantan and
Faculdades Integradas do Tapajós. Eight five species, including 27 subspecies, 45 genera and eight
families have been recorded. Among the areas compared here, the low part of the Amazonas River
presented great similarity in diversity with the eastern Pará (Coefficient of Biogeographic Similarity =
78%). Of the 98 species for eastern Pará, at least 72 occur in the low part of the Amazonas River. The
richness of species found in the area under study, probably reflects different environmental conditions
over a large area
