摘要：Demersal ichthyofauna characteristics from two areas of Paranaguá estuarine complex, Paraná,
Brazil
In dynamic areas such as estuaries, changes in the environmental parameters can define different
occupation in different areas. Temporal and spatial variations in composition and structure of the demersal
fish fauna were analyzed in the Paranaguá and Laranjeiras Bays, Paranaguá Estuarine Complex, Paraná.
Using botton trawls, the samples were collected bimonthly between August 2003 and June 2004, in four
sampling stations at each area. Simultaneously to the botton trawls, temperature and bottom salinity,
depth, transparency of the water were measured. In each sampling station granulometry and percentage
of organic matter of the sediment were analysed. In the two bays 6338 fish from 27 families and 60
species were captured. The samples were numerically dominated by Cathorops spixii (Agassiz, 1929),
Genidens genidens (Cuvier, 1829), Pomadasys corvinaeformis (Steindachner, 1868), Stellifer rastrifer
(Jordan, 1889), Eucinostomus argenteus (Baird; Girard, 1855), Anchoa parva (Meek; Hildebrand, 1923)
and Etropus crossotus (Jordan; Gilbert, 1882), with low frequencies of occurrence for other species.
The captured ichthyofauna was composed by individuals of small size, with higher frequencies among 60 and 120 mm, 30 and 60 mm and 120 and 150 mm sizes classes. Most of the collected fish was
immature or in maturation, with only 29,5% of adults in the samples. In general, between the two areas
the ichthyofauna did not present significant differences concerning the size structure and gonadal
maturation stages. The univariate indexes of richness of Margalef, equitativity of Pielou and diversity of
Shannon-Wiener did not show structural differences in the fish assemblage of the two areas. Larger
ichthyofaunistics similarities seems to happen among station 5 (Paranaguá) and the stations 1, 2, and 3
(Laranjeiras); and between stations 4 (Laranjeiras) and 8 (Paranaguá).
