摘要:This paper provides evidence of social transformations induced by the high-speed, always on,
Internet connectivity (broadband) in the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick with a focus on
the town of Shippagan and its parish. We outline examples of transformations on rural communities
and summarize important barriers to their effective use of broadband. The major finding of
our case study research is that there are many examples of new uses and activities because of
adoption of broadband, in spite of the fact that broadband technology has very recently been introduced
in the Acadian Peninsula. We have also noticed that there are few cases of changes in
behaviours, attitudes, relationships, and operating norms, as a result.
