标题:Dentofacial Orthopedics: Frequency, Geographic Distribution and Length of Treatment For Dentomaxillary Dysmorphosis. A National Study Based on Data From the General Scheme of the National Health Fund
摘要:Aims: To determine the frequency of the different classes of Angle’s dental classification in reimbursement requests for dentofacial orthopedic treatments in affiliates of the general scheme of the national health fund, as well as the frequency of the different treatment periods. Methods: Study data was comprised by 351,613 patient files concerning dentofacial orthopedic treatments recorded in the database of the health fund’s medical service (using the Médicis software program) during the year 2000. Results: Requests for treatment mainly concerned patients aged 10 to 12 years (47%) and 13 to 15 years (31.1%). All ages considered, most requests were for females (54.7%). Angle’s class II 1 was the most frequent (59.9%) followed by classes I (29.7%), II 2 (5.4%), and III (5.0%). The distribution of Angle’s classes was different according to the geographic region (p < 0.001) . Dentomaxillary disharmony with skeletal anomalies represented 19.9% of the anomalies associated with an anteroposterior gap. Beneficiary requests during the fourth semester represented 50.4% of all requests for initial treatment. Requests for a first year of braces constituted 90.0% of all requests for braces and were mainly for patients aged 14 to 16 years (68.3%). Conclusion: This national survey illustrates the wealth of information concerning dentofacial orthopedics recorded in the Médicis database of the national health fund which can be readily used to follow this activity for public health studies.
