摘要:Malaysia received substantial amounts of foreign direct investment (FDI) in its manufacturing industry over the past decades. The main aim of this study is to investigate the location-related determinants of FDI in the manufacturing industry of Malaysia. Generally, the results, obtained by using the ordinary least squares (OLS) and instrumental variable (IV) methods show education and infrastructure to have a significant positive impact on FDI. There is no strong evidence to suggest that market size or current account balance have a significant positive impact on FDI. There is some evidence that inflation is found to have a significant negative impact on FDI. The wage costs, interest rate and exchange rate are found to have a negative impact on FDI but are statistically insignificant.
