摘要：The remarkable evolution of research on alcoholism in the last years, focusing on the importance of gender in alcohol biological effects, is highlighted in this special issue of Annali dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità. The paper is aimed to give a scientific, reliable update on the most recent studies about female alcohol problems covering a broad range of topics related to female drinking, including animal studies, socio-cultural issues, and considerations about the health risk due to concomitant exposure to alcohol and environmental pollutants.
