摘要:The reappearance of infantile narcissism in the mother during pregnancy and after a child’s birth is discussed
in this article. The point of departure is the Freudian concept of narcissism, highlighting the importance of
the mother’s own infantile narcissistic period for ego development. Other psychoanalytic authors are also
used for exploring the mother’s inflated narcissistic feelings during pregnancy and after birth. These concepts
are illustrated through interview reports during pregnancy, as well as during the baby’s fourth and eighth
month. In the analysis, the mother’s subjective position, as revealed through her reports concerning her
childhood history and the inheritance left by the constitutive marks of the relationship with her own mother
are emphasized. From this case the importance of mother’s constitutive aspects, actualized and reedited for
the construction of the maternal place and consequently for the baby’s insertion in her phantasy life is made
evident.
