摘要:The present article examines knowledges and practices set in motion by social educators – the so called
‘oficineiros’, or workshop mediators – who are residents of an outskirts neighborhood in Porto Alegre,
Brazil, where they conduct workshops with youths of their communities. The study is circunscribed within
the perspectve of situated cognition (Varela et al., 2003) in a heterogeneous network including institutions,
tools, and knowledges. From that perspective, the cognitive act is not restricted to effectiveness in problem
solving, but it is rather an ability to make pertinent issues emerge. As a research method, the work of two of
those mediators was followed during the project, taking emergent issues as analysers. The issues posed by
the mediators themselves allowed the distinction of three domains: the meanings of their work, the workshop
itself, and the relationship between their work and other institutions. Finally, some of the operators that
allow the workshop to escape a preventive and moral logic are discussed.
