摘要:C This article compares graduate study in Brazil and the United States in order to demonstrat
that master and doctoral programs in Brazil are not copies of those offered in the US, as is often posited.
Rather, they result from a combination of American and French models, adjusted to Brazilian circumstances.
The article describes the two models, reviews the history of graduate education in the US and Brazil and
identifies and explains factors that differentiates graduate programs in the two countries. The author
concludes by affirming that the !°hybrid!± model developed in Brazil successfully integrates the two tradition
models in a complementary manner, producing valuable synergies.
