摘要:This study aims to investigate the effect of a structured goal-oriented group guidance
program designed to improve friendship skills on the social acceptance levels and sociometric status of
the adolescents. A total 244 students were given a sociometric test for the purpose of assigning control
and experimental groups. The data obtained were analyzed by using the Coie, Dodge and Coppotelli’s
classic sociometric classification method so that the students were categorized under sociometric
status. Both groups were consisted of 16 students. The students in the experimental group participated
to a four-week group guidance program which intended to improve their friendship skills. The subjects
in the control group did not receive any treatment. Following the program, sociometric test was
administered again and the students were reclassified. Pre-test and post-test scores of both groups
were analyzed for any differences by using 2x2 ANOVA for repeated measures. The results showed
that the program was effective in improving the social acceptance levels of the students in the
experimental group and there was a positive change in their sociometric status. Finally, the results
were discussed under the light of relevant literature.
