摘要:The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which science teachers engaged students
in science activities and taught problem solving and also the difficulties faced by science teachers in
implementing the problem-solving method in the science classroom. The survey involved 149 teachers in
Balıkesir elementary schools. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire that had two main sections.
The statistical techniques that were used in the study are the frequency and percentage distribution. It was found
that the most emphasized activities were using the audio-visual materials on related topic, making quiz or class
test and explaining the concepts. The factors that affect the use of problem solving in science classrooms are the
time tabling constraints, the need to maintain control of pupils’ learning and the feeling constraint to complete
the science curriculum for examinations.
