摘要:Gregory of Elbira (presumedly deceased in 392) remained in obscurity for centuries and he was an almost forgotten Father of the Hispanic Church until the recovery and edition of his literary patrimony began in 1906. His works are mainly biblical commentaries and they reflect not only a doctrinal and theological point of view, but also a conception of time, power, society, culture and conflicts between the Church and its enemies (heretics, jews and pagans). This author uses Biblical etymologies and exegesis of allegorical tendencies. Biblical etymology in Saint Gregory’s literary works is an authentic and creative mean of expression and true testimony of the mentality in his time, because Biblical commentaries were the most important source of cultural creation in Christian Roman Empire.
