摘要:This study examines how telework changes the way workers obtain resources and information to get their jobs done. Interviews for our two-phase case study in the same firm were conducted in 1995, when the company first did trials on telework, and in 2005 capturing a decade of telework. To understand how organisational structures and technology affect the decentralised work place, we develop an intraorganisational resource model that contains three sources of inputs to help workers get their work done: i) organisational systems as routines, technology, supervision and support; ii) workers’ human capital, which is their knowledge and experience that help them work; iii) social capital or informal support as is present in their social networks. We analyse the feasibility of telework, depending on the resource mix, work flow characteristics, and communication patterns. The biggest problem for the organisation for tele-working ten years ago was getting information to complete their tasks. Over our study period organisational resources were strengthened, more work was routinised and communication systems improved, thereby easing telework for many jobs.
