摘要：Poetry and music
enchant and fascinate human being since the beginning of humankind. This article intends
to ¡°define¡±, differentiate and investigate - as far as possible ¨C the extent to which the
apparently magic union of these two arts occurs, emphasizing the poetic art. The object of
analysis is the poem ¡°Inspira..o¡±(1922), by M¨¢rio de Andrade. Besides being recognized as
a central figure of the Brazilian literature, he was also a great student of music and a pianist.
He elaborated a very pertinent theory/analogy between musical and poetic elements in
relation to free verse. This theory/analogy illustrates well a fusion of these arts, each with its
particular characteristics, but it leaves out some points that differentiate both of them.
