摘要:As the second book in the Cambridge
Introduction to Roman Civilization
series, Roman Women assumes, according
to the publisher’s website, “…no prior
knowledge of ancient Rome on the part of
the reader.” It is a textbook that provides a
broad overview of the daily aspects of the
lives of women ranging from the highest
levels of society to the lowest, in chapters
exploring marriage and family, work and
leisure, and the public life of women. As a
textbook Roman Women lacks an overarching
thesis; however, even a specialist will
find D’Ambra’s interpretations stimulating.
