摘要：The using and land cover mapping is the great importance, because when they are done in a non planned way, they degrade the environment. The goal of this research was to characterize the land cover and land use in the municipality of Tailandia, through the LANDSAT 5/TM with GIS. The cartographic projection system used was UTM, zone 22S, Datum WGS-84. The non-supervised classification was done with the ISODATA algorithm. It was observed that 224377.483 ha were antropized areas, which were caused, principally, by the illegal exploitation of wood, burned and deforestation for the practice of agriculture and pasture. It was possible to identify the wood exploitation in a conventional way and areas that are being explored in a selective way. This research concluded that it is possible to use the geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques for monitoring the territory and managing the environment.
