摘要：Many studies are focused upon remote rural areas, far away from main economical axes, but we need to pay attention to rural settlements around towns, which can be a landfill for the urban system. One of these cases is Izvorul Bârzii commune, nearby Drobeta Turnu-Severin, which gathers both the town’s Fire Station Coal and the Heavy Water Plant. The output for local community consists in air, water, soil pollution (H2S, SOx, NOx, particles, ashes, heavy metals) not central heating or money. At the same time, this area has nice natural and historical sites which can attract tourists, but their values are destroyed by environmental problems. More than this, the local authority does not have a 21 local agenda, so a sustainable management or people living here is a dream. From this point of view the assessment is useful and could be considered a model for other Romanian settlements and applied directly to this commune.
