摘要:This paper presents the main geographical characteristics of the population in Vâlcea County (population dynamics, evolution of the main demographic indicators, population mobility and structures). Vâlcea County, situated in the centre of Romania, within the Olt hydrographical basin, presents favourable conditions for the development’ of the human settlements. It is a large county (5,765 sq. km) and it has a significant population (413,237 inhabitants in 2002, the 25th place in the country). The population of Vâlcea County consists in majority of Romanians (99 per cent); a big part of the population lives in rural areas (60.8 per cent), the feminine population is more numerous than the masculine one, the population over 65 years old outruns the population under fourteen. In this county, in 2002, there were eight towns, 77 communes and 564 villages.
