摘要：Greenstone is a suite of software for building and distributing digital
library collections. It is not a digital library but a tool for building
digital libraries. It provides a way of organizing information and
publishing it on the Internet (or on removable media) in the form of a fully
searchable, metadata-driven collection. It has been used to create fully
searchable and browsable collections of all kinds of documents, books,
photographs, newspaper images, metadata such as library catalogues of
MARC records, audio (MP3 files) and video ¨C as well as mixed collections.
Most are distributed on the web, but several collections of humanitarian
information have been produced on CD-ROM for distribution in developing
countries. Greenstone has been used for collections of a small handful of
documents up to collections of several million newspaper articles (20 GB of
raw text, 2 billion words, 60 million unique terms).
