Corporate social responsibility (CSR) became a very present subject in discussion of the business and academic
level. But most of the companies don¡¯t understand what this concept really mean and associates it with some of
its components: cause related marketing, sponsorships, philanthropy. This paper wants to clarify the
terminology surrounding the CSR concept taking into account the EU opinion stated in the Commission Green
Paper 2001 ¡°Promoting a European Framework for Corporate Social Responsibility¡±, COM (2001)366 Final.
