Brazilian indians try to rescue their culture but they face some
difficulties which include the education and, more specifically, the teaching
of Sciences. The main objective of this research was to identify and discuss
the perceptions of Indian students from “Tupinambá” tribe in Olivença,
Bahia, about fauna. The data were collected through questionnaire applied
to 1st and 2nd grade students of Fundamental Level from Tupinambá State
School in Olivença, Bahia, and interview with the Indian tribal chief.s
