The present article presents the results of a study whose
objective was to analyze the papers presented in the I National Meeting of
Education of Biology (I ENEBIO), in order to know the contents more
frequently selected and the methodologies used by the Brazilian professors
who participated in this event. A brief reflection on the education of sciences in
Brazil, and the relationship with important moments of the recent history of
Brazil (second half of century XX), has been made, as the focus in this
research. The sample, of one hundred and eighteen summaries, was submitted
to Content Analysis and then, ten categories and seven categories was
organized according to the contents and to the methodologies of education
adopted by the teachers, respectively. There was a prevalence of Environment
Education and extra classroom activities among contents and methodologies,
respectively. The continuity of the study by means of qualitative analysis of the
summaries is foreseen.4
