  • 摘要:This study provides an evaluation of recent doctoral dissertation studies on educationaltechnology conducted at five big universities in Turkey; namely Anadolu University, AnkaraUniversity, Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University and Marmara University.Along with the libraries of these universities, the online database of the Higher EducationCouncil was reviewed which led researchers to locate a total of 64 dissertations. Researchersdirectly accessed most of the dissertations. When this was not possible, the authors or advisors ofdissertations were asked for help. In addition, educational technology professors at theseuniversities were asked to check if any dissertation was left out. Dissertations were examined interms of their formats, contents and methodologies. Findings revealed that both quality andquantity of educational technology research vary significantly from one university to another.Approximately three out of four dissertations were completed at Ankara and Anadolu University.Two out of every three studies employed experimental designs and analyzed the findings throughintermediate-level statistical techniques. Other studies mostly applied descriptive models alongwith beginning level statistical procedures. Most of the studies were conducted with full-timestudents at formal educational institutions except for a few studies conducted at informaleducational settings with adult learners. Most of the experimental studies used achievement testsand attitude scales to collect data, and reported intermediate level reliability coefficients.Descriptive studies mostly employed questionnaires, case studies, and content analyses. The mostprevailing theme of investigation was computer assisted instruction, followed by instructionaldesign variables and learning approaches. The current evaluation suggests that most themes orissues related to educational technology have not been adequately investigated in Turkey yet.Besides, a considerable number of existing studies have serious problems regarding particularlyinternal as well as external validity.
