Este ensayo presenta una panorámica sobre el género literario novela en la región centroamericana. Se destacan por sus juicios críticos los escritores Gloria Guardia, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa y Miguel ?ngel Asturias. Inicialmente, el trabajo centra su interés en el papel dinámico que ha ejercido el escritor latinoamericano, con el fin de dar a conocer su herencia cultural en la región. En consecuencia, aborda los aspectos de creación que conlleva todo proceso de configuración de un género literario y, particularmente, de la novela: la responsabilidad social del escritor, su vocación y su papel activo como actor social, así como el destino que debe tener toda literatura comprometida

This essay presents a panoramic view of the novel as a literary genre in the Central American region. Some writers such as Gloria Guardia, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa and Miguel ?ngel Asturias are of importance because of their critical judgments. The first part of the work centers its interest in the dynamic role the Latin-American writer has played in order to show his cultural inheritance in the region. As a consequence, the writer approaches the aspects of creation that entails every process of configuration of a literary genre, mainly, the novel: the social responsibility of the writer, his vocation and his active role as a social actor, as well as the destiny that every compromised literature must have
