摘要：This article has as its main objective sketching the outline of a theoretical and
methodological approach meant as a contribution to a better understanding of the
relations between culture and the economy in their vital role in the development
process. Thus, I shall put forward a critical evaluation of a set of development theories
and models, which either obviated those relationships or approached them
inappropiatley worsening the impasse suffered by the Sociology of Development in
recent years. My own proposal grounds itself in Sociology while engaging
interdisciplinarily with recent theoretical and conceptual innovations which have taken
place in political economy, “cultural studies” and moral and political philosophy. The
central argument in this article underlines the utmost importance of values and moralpolitical
judgements in the whole development process, influencing to a large extent the
shape taken by the relations between culture and the economy in this decisive domain.
