摘要：Private and social costs are significantly different in the transportation sector.
These differences are a source of economic inefficiencies which can be reduced by using
two traditional economic tools: pricing and taxation. We explore the reasons that may
explain why pricing and taxation are not widely used in the transportation sector. We also
discuss the efficiency of these two tools and their relevance given a context where their
application is a political matter. Finally, we also discuss alternative and complementary
solutions to pricing and taxation.
