摘要:This paper sheds light on the decision-making process within the family and
deals with private transfers given by adult children to their elderly parents. On the one
hand, each child has to bargain with his/her spouse to care for parents and parents-in-law.
On the other hand, each child may rely on a potential support from other siblings when
helping the parents. We wonder here whether it matters to account for arrangements
between siblings to explain the pattern of upstream transfers. We examine the possibility of
intra-family arrangements using the MHSS survey conducted in 1996 in Bangladesh. Our
econometric results show that the transfer decisions of the various siblings are not independent
from each other.
