摘要：Economic activity in Anguilla is estimated to
have increased in the first quarter of 2006 compared
with the level in the corresponding period of 2005.
The construction sector and tourism industry were
the main engines of growth. Consumer prices
increased by 1.3 per cent during the period under
review. The merchandise trade deficit widened, as
import payments increased and export receipts
declined. The central government recorded an
overall surplus in contrast to a deficit in the first
quarter of 2005. Developments in the banking
system were characterised by strong growth in net
foreign assets and a high level of commercial bank
liquidity.
