摘要：Economic activity in the first quarter of 2006
was below the level in the corresponding period of
2005. This outturn stemmed largely from
developments in the construction sector. Output in
the agricultural and manufacturing sectors increased,
while performance in the tourism industry was
mixed. The consumer price index declined by 1.1
per cent on an end of period basis. The merchandise
trade deficit widened reflecting an increase in import
payments. The central government¡¯s fiscal
operations yielded an overall surplus which was well
above that in the first quarter of 2005. In the
banking sector, monetary liabilities fell.
Commercial bank liquidity remained at a high level,
while interest rates remained unchanged.
