摘要：Economic activity is estimated to have expanded
in the first quarter of 2006 compared with the
outturn in the corresponding period of 2005. This
assessment is largely based on increased activity in
the construction sector. Performance in the tourism
industry was mixed, while output in the agricultural
and manufacturing sectors declined as a result of the
closure of the sugar industry. The consumer price
index rose by 0.8 per cent. The overall fiscal deficit
of the federal government increased, largely on
account of higher capital expenditure. In the
banking sector, monetary liabilities increased and
commercial bank liquidity remained at a high level.
