摘要：In recent years the focus of regulatory and legislative changes in the South African
financial sector shifted from the introduction of new legislation to amending and
monitoring the implementation of existing laws. Authorities focused more intensely on
transparency, trust and the protection of consumers. This resulted in the detection of a
number of irregularities in the financial system, several fraud charges, recovery of some
embezzled funds and significant progress towards meeting deadlines envisaged earlier
on. Some of the key developments are discussed below, while others have been dealt
with in the section on Monetary developments and interest rates.
