摘要：A budgetary surplus of $13.8 billion was
recorded in 2006¨C07. Budgetary revenues
increased by 6.2 per cent over the prior year.
This gain was due to strong growth in
income tax revenues, which was only partially
offset by a decrease in goods and services tax
(GST) revenues due to the impact of the
July 1, 2006, GST rate reduction. Program
expenses rose by 7.5 per cent as a result of
higher transfers to individuals and to other
levels of government, as well as higher
operating expenses. Public debt charges
increased by $0.2 billion, or 0.5 per cent, due
to a higher average effective interest rate on
the stock of interest-bearing debt.
