摘要:On May 22, the House of Representatives passed the Federal Housing Finance Reform Act of 2007 (H.R. 1427), a bill that would create a new regulator for housing finance government‐sponsored enterprises (GSEs). This new regulator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), would oversee the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), and the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks. The Bush administration expressed support for the House bill before it was passed, although an amendment limiting the proposed regulator’s power may have jeopardized that support. A separate bill to reform GSE regulation (S. 1100) was also pending in the Senate but, as of June 28, had not moved beyond the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
