摘要:Over the last three decades, tourism became the main sector of the economic development of the Maldives. Today, about 92 % of this activity concentrate in the central atolls of Kaafu and Ari while 61 % of the population live outside the tourism area. Because of the government policy which separates inhabited islands and resorts islands, the local population isn’t well integrated into tourism industry. This situation has diverse effects, both spatial, economic and sociocultural. The assessment of the population’s vulnerability to tourism development is proposed in this paper as a tool for an integrated management policy. Methodological orientations are presented and the main challenges for the future are defined.
