摘要:The development of the first synthetic dyestuff
by William Henry Perkins in 1856 led to the
birth of the European dyestuff industry. Use
of synthetic dyes expanded to all textile substrates,
and soon they began to be used in India¡¯s already
well-developed textile industry. However, in India
the industry depended on imported organic
dyestuffs until the 1940s and the start-up of the first
Indian company, Arlabs Ltd.1 In the 1950s and
1960s a number of other companies were established
with foreign collaboration.2By the 1960s the
stage was set for rapid growth in this industry.
