摘要:When you took your last job, did you
accept the salary on offer or negotiate
for an increase? If you are a woman, the
chances are that you accepted what was on
offer and this, of course will have major
implications for your career.
It has been suggested by Linda Babcock, in
¡®Women don¡¯t ask¡¯, that men are more likely
to try to improve their initial salary offer and
are frequently successful. Indeed, it has been
estimated that those who conduct such
negotiations earn over $1m more by the
time they retire. However, women may be
better at asking on behalf of others than
they are for themselves ¨C so when it comes
to negotiation, men shouldn¡¯t think that
they have all the answers.
