摘要：Before the Tanzimat period, the researches inlanguage were commonly done by translating Arabic andPersian sources into Turkish. The research in Turkishlanguage’s eloquence, clarity and orthography wasbecome widespread during the Tanzimat period. It isworth noting that such research was usually prepared byeducators to be used in schools. Bereketzade IsmailHakki, whose real profession was in law, was wrote books about genre, eloquence, clarity, wording and orthographyduring this period. Ismail Hakki, who was in closecolloabation with Namik Kemal at some periods, wasinfluenced by the Tanzimat period’s reformist ideas andWestern tendencies. In this study, Bereketzade IsmailHakki’s opinion about Turkish language and orthographyis presented based on his works named Esrâr-ı Belâgatand Mesveret.
