摘要：The initial aim of this FRDC project was to determine the impacts of catch-and-release
sportsfishing on spawning aggregations of Samson fish that form west of Rottnest Island each
summer. This followed discussions with concerned charter boat operators, and ultimately led
to the current more broadly focussed study. Nevertheless, the study of Samson fish remained a
key objective, firstly because the Rottnest aggregations were ideal for trialling various methods
of monitoring aggregations, and secondly because of the strong support that was received from
the recreational fishing community.
