摘要:The growth of the world economy decelerated markedly at the
end of last year. In the United States, the long period of exceptional
expansion came to an abrupt end. In Southeast Asia,
the setback in ICT-related activities resulted in a sharp decline
of the overall growth rate. Up to now, Europe has been relatively
little affected, but a slowdown in 2001 seems unavoidable.
The international business cycle is expected to bottomout
in the first half of this year. World trade growth slows from
a record 13 percent in 2000 to 6 percent this year, but could
accelerate somewhat again next year. Worldwide, inflation
picked up sharply last year, partly due to steep oil price
increases, but is expected to fall again during the projection
period.
