摘要：Can the ageing problem be alleviated by an increase of immigration?
This article assesses the issue by calculating the net
lifetime effect of non-Western immigrants on public finances.
It turns out that immigrants form a burden if they have the
same social and economic characteristics as current non-
Western residents. Correspondingly, budget balances are
affected negatively. If their characteristics are equal to those of
the average Dutch residents, immigrants alleviate public
finances if their age at entry is between 14 and 45 years. The
range of positive outcomes is widened further if their characteristics
are ¡®better¡¯ than the Dutch average.
