摘要:To what extent was the rebound of Total Factor Productivity
(TFP) growth in the second half of the previous decade related
to the boom of investment in information and communication
technology (ICT)? This article investigates for the Netherlands
the relative importance of different channels through which
ICT can boost labour productivity growth. By including ICT
spillovers explicitly in a production-function model, our study
attempts to reconcile the contrasting results of growthaccounting
studies at the macro or industry level, and
econometric studies on firm-level data concerning the relation
between ICT and productivity growth. It is shown that ICT
spillovers were an important source of TFP growth in the
period considered, and that neglecting a correlation between a
firm’s own ICT use and the increased ICT use of its environment
may lead to an overestimation of the (direct) contribution
of ICT capital deepening to labour productivity growth.
