Analysis (see box) was the tension between demand for and supply
of applied research on trade policy. At the policy panel, a plea
was made by policymakers with various backgrounds that account
is taken of new policy issues in the applied research. New directions
were pointed out in various keynote speeches, leading to
interesting and fruitful discussions.
