摘要：This is a critical review of the most important approaches to development and
regional integration, in particular, that of the Economic Commission for Latin
America (ECLAC) and their contribution to the promotion of Latin-American
development in term of equality and equity. Firstly, the paper examines the
Latin-American development model by revisiting ECLAC¡äs structuralism,
inward looking development model, Development from within model, social
capital and the proposal of productive transformation with equity. The paper
conclude by arguing that the contribution of Latin-America integration to
development must overcome the mere economic dimension and incorporate
other dimensions such as social, politics and cultural goals. The utmost
objective is to reduce poverty persistent poverty and inequity in the region as
well as a better insertion in the global economy.
