摘要:According to the preliminary estimates of the SDS, Georgia¡¯s GDP in 2003 was GEL 8,465.6 million
(USD 3,948.1 million, i.e., USD 866.7 per capita). GDP growth rate rose in 2003 to 8.6 per cent,
compared with 5.4 per cent in 2002. It is an interesting fact, that such a high growth rate in Georgia
was not observed since the economic crisis of 1998. In 2003, the GDP grew in every quarter
compared with the corresponding quarter in the previous year. In the first quarter it was 4.8 per cent,
in the second 12.2 per cent, in the third 8.4 per cent and in the fourth quarter the rate reached
8.5 per cent. The only negative growth rate was in the state management and defence sector, and the
reduction of the expenses for state management can be considered as a positive development in the
circumstances of the scarce budgetary resources.
