This article is based on the perceptions of 39 school principals in Haiti's North-East department about the causes and prevention of violence in Haitian schools. Quantitative analyses show that the participants attribute the causes of Haitian school violence more to factors outside of school (in this order: family, society and students) than to internal factors. An analysis of the contents reveals that more principals mention external means of prevention.
