摘要:Vehicular pollution is a major contributor to the greenhouse gases and air pollution worldwide, particularly in Urbancentres. Products of incomplete fossil fuel combustion (CO, NO, NO2, SO2, SO3) are more harmful to the atmosphereand are direct result of reduced levels of available oxygen. Traffic congestion is the epitome of this situation, with highdensity, slower moving traffic compounding the problems for cleaner combustion. The underlying causes of congestionhave been considered and a model to quantitatively characterise and assess their impact has been formulated. Roadintersections, are shown to play a key role in not only the increasing number of road accidents, congestion, reductionof the overall efficiency of vehicle movement, but also as an indirect result as compounding the impact of vehicularpollution. In this regard, a road intersection traffic analysis model is proposed, wherein congestion and reduction ofvehicle movement, including after-effects, are analysed.
