To evaluate in a psychological way patients of vitiligo, despigmentary disease, 87 cases were studied with ages between 16 and 59 years of both sexes. Inexpression, emotional unstability, unsensibility aggressivity and anxiety distinguished the subjects. Women showed higher levels of stress, aggresivity and depression than men. Differences between groups of ages were found in some of psychological aspects. Depression, uncontrol, emotional tension and perceived stress viere greater while the area of bodily despigmentation was greater. Most of the patients generally do not seek information about disease, do not isolate themselves from social relationships, they seek social support with their family or some close person and fell optimism with the treatment. Vitiligo began after stressing events in a 77 percent of the sample and this group conducted in a more conventional and insecure way than the group in which vitilige did not have relationship with emotional stress.
