摘要：Ten countries constitute the Asian region for this study¡ª
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, North
Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. The
region faces increasing food insecurity in selected countries
during the next decade as the amount of food needed to
maintain consumption at the base (1996-98) level¡ªalso
known as the status quo food gap¡ªis projected to nearly
double, reaching more than 6 million tons in 2009. The nutrition
food gap, the amount of food needed to raise consumption
to the minimum nutritional standard, is projected at 5.2
million tons in 2009.
