摘要:Guillain-Barr¨¦ syndrome
(GBS) is the leading cause
of acute paralysis in the
United States now that polio has
been almost eliminated by vaccination
programs. Although the causes
of GBS are uncertain, many medical
researchers believe that GBS is a
reaction by a person¡¯s immune system
responding to fight off several
potential triggers, such as some gastrointestinal
or respiratory infections.
One trigger of GBS is Campylobacter
jejuni, which is also the most
common cause of foodborne diarrhea
in the United States. Sources of
Campylobacter primarily include raw
and undercooked poultry, but raw
milk and polluted water have also
caused outbreaks.
